ACT Biodiversity: a methodology for assessing corporate strategies
Published on 18 June 2026 by the OFB and ADEME, it transposes the ACT approach to the field of biodiversity.
On 18 June 2026, the French Biodiversity Office and ADEME published the ACT Biodiversity methodology.
The ACT approach, for Assessing low-Carbon Transition, was initially developed to assess the credibility of companies' decarbonisation strategies: the consistency between stated targets, committed investment and the actual emissions trajectory.
ACT Biodiversity transposes this logic to the living world, a more complex exercise: whereas greenhouse gas emissions reduce to a single, global indicator, impacts on biodiversity are multidimensional and highly dependent on local context.
The methodology aims to give companies a structured framework for assessing their pressures — land artificialisation, resource abstraction, pollution, habitat fragmentation — and for building a measurable improvement trajectory.
For energy infrastructure, the issue is concrete: power lines, generation sites and industrial footprints interact directly with natural habitats, which makes this a criterion for the acceptability of projects.
